Volunteer at Wolf Creek Indian Village & Museum
Arts & Crafts Assistants
Creative? There are ample opportunities to learn a new craft or
demonstrate a craft. Wolf Creek Indian Village is always in need of
Native American style baskets and the tools that would have been used at
that time period to be displayed in the village. We have plenty of books
on the subject and a few experts we can call on to help teach you.
Already know a craft such as quill work, beading, and basketry or hide
tanning? Come help teach a class for an event.
Museum Store Assistants
Friendly? Welcome visitors, answer questions about exhibits, direct
guests to the various Museum areas. Like to shop “til you drop? If so,
working in our museum store is for you. Display and sell items that
range from children’s toys to unique American Indian arts. Store
volunteers are friendly, cheerful and eager to help customers.
Volunteers are especially needed with school groups as the children
shop. Store assistants also help price and stock the new merchandise.
Outside Grounds Assistants
Love the outdoors and can handle tools? This is an exciting volunteer
opportunity at Wolf Creek Indian Village. We are in the process of
recreating the Indian Village that was once here and need assistants
interested in 500 year old blueprints to help with village construction.
Like outdoors but not able to perform construction?
There are always opportunities in the maintenance of the
structures (cleaning, setting up displays)and the trails too. Would you
like to volunteer to take a walk? As you walk you can help maintain the
trails by gathering the small wood that falls from the trees on the
trails and bring it to the village for the fires. Or help gather
materials for the village (nuts from the trees) etc. Plenty of
opportunities are here.
Garden and Indoor Plant Assistants
Have a green thumb or want to learn? There is ample opportunity to work
in a garden. There are gardens that surround the building, at the
entrance and the Native American style gardens in the village are in
need of volunteers. We also have museum plants in pots that need tender
loving care.
Office Assistants
Want to go behind the scenes? You don’t have to be a specialist, just
someone who enjoys helping out in a museum environment. Examples would
be, answering the phone, typing information into a database, filing,
envelope stuffing, photocopying, labeling envelopes, making phone calls,
writing notes, etc.
Cleaning Crew Volunteers
The museum is always in need of volunteers to help keep it in top clean
shape. A visit from 130 second graders can put more fingerprints on
glass than a thousand children trying to intentionally. We do not have
funds to hire a maintenance janitor, so help the staff vacuum, dust,
clean glass and bathrooms to make the museum a welcoming place for
visitors.
Volunteer Orientation – Interested in any of these volunteer
opportunities? Contact us for an application and/or join us during
Season every third Saturday of the Month at 11 AM for our Orientation
meeting. (Special Orientations may be held periodically by Staff.)
